Years of relapse finally gave me the Gift Of Desperation. (Acronym for GOD) I was left with no other choice but to surrender to the suggestions of a sponsor. Our capacity to make a decent living had been impaired by mental and emotional instability (4th bedevilment). Despite being physically sober, most of us continued to be unhappy, frequently plagued by mood swings and negative emotions. (Bedevilments 5, 6, and 7)  Some were on medication and continued to suffer from depression and anxiety. (3rd bedevilment)  The identification with the rest of the bedevilments was plain to see.<\/p>\n

When left unresolved, a spiritual malady will continue to lead to restlessness, irritability, and discontentment. It can also lead to other problems, such as alcohol abuse or other addictions. If you are struggling with alcoholism or any other addiction, it is important to seek help from AA or another 12-step program.<\/p>\n

You should also try to find other people in AA who share your beliefs and struggles; they can provide support and fellowship as well as offer helpful advice. Just remember, even if you don\u2019t share the same beliefs, everyone in AA are united by their shared experience with addiction and their desire to stay sober. You are merely instructed to be open to the idea that you are not the end all be all, that there exists out in the universe something that is greater or more powerful than yourself.<\/p>\n

How do you know if you are having a spiritual experience?<\/h2>\n

We certainly didn\u2019t sign up for the Big Book study because we were \u201chappy, joyous and free.\u201d (BB p.133)  It was hard to deny the truth once it was down on paper.
